Originally, the company´s primary focus was to complete the works for the Barcelona Olympic Games.
Having successfully completed its original task, the corporation turned to the improvement of Catalonia's highway network, undertaking such projects as the so-called Eix Transversal, the Capsacosta tunnels, the Baix Llobregat A16 Turnpike, the Mataró-Granollers Turnpike, Baix Llobregrat subway, the new Vallvidrera funicular of the Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Cataluña and the lines 3 and 4 of the Barcelona Metropolitan subway among others.

In addition to numerous other highway construction and maintenance and railway infrastructure projects, GISA has implemented the construction of teaching centers, local police stations, primary health care centers and more.
In this sense it was essential to create, in 1997, the office of General Management of Construction. This division was created to collaborate initially with the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the secondary objective of achieving overall improvement of the educational infrastructure and educational offering based on the requirements of the LOGSE.

Over time, the number of areas of the autonomous governement to which GISA offers its services has consistently grown. Currently, company is in contact with the Department of the Interior regarding the deployment of the mozos de escuadra in all the counties of Catalunya, and regarding the improvement and expansion of the firefighter parks; with the Health Service regarding the finalization of the reformation of primary care facilities and improvements in the network of hospitals; with the Department of Justice regarding the construction of new judicial buildings and reforms in the existing ones; with Social Welfare regarding the construction of residences, day centers and protected housing; with the Presidential Office regarding the restoration of the Palace of the Generalitat; and with the Finance and Economics Department, among others.

GISA has been managing large scale urban works. In-situ monitoring is an important part of these works, and is carried out with state-of-the art techniques: robotized total station, real-time monitoring, GIS database,…
GISA experience and current work offer an ideal opportunity for validation of SANY architecture in the domain of urban geo hazards.
