Abstract:

The document is structured in six sections.

The first section contains the document purpose, structure, some abbreviations, acronyms and a list of figures.

Section 2 gives an introduction of the SANY sensor model. To characterize the role of sensors in the observation process, first some terms are defined. Finally a short summary of the main characterizations of SANY sensors is given.

Section 3 contains a taxonomy of the SANY sensor which describes the information about sensors required by an overlying sensor network system. The taxonomy covers the aspects

  • Sensor identifiers
  • Sensor measurement capability
  • Data output
  • Data transfer
  • Diagnostics
  • Data processing
  • Power supply
  • Quality
  • Sensor localization concept
  • Sensor internal time concept

Section 4 shows the investigation results whether the taxonomy is covered by OGC SensorML and derives some main conclusions.

Section 5 lists some references and section 6 is an appendix with some examples and references of SensorML coding the elements of the SANY sensor taxonomy.
