SANY newsletter 1: Welcome to SANY IPDear reader,
About SANY newsletter Sensors Anywhere Integrated Project (SANY IP) is an FP6 Integrated Project (contract number 0033564) co-funded by the Information Society and Media DG of the European Commission within the RTD activities of the Thematic Priority Information Society Technologies. SANY IP will help to speed up the existing trend towards standardized and interoperable in-situ sensor networks. SANY shall contribute to GMES (http://www.gmes.info/) initiative by promoting and where needed proposing standards covering the architecture and the interfaces of sensor networks for the domain of environmental risk management (and potentially for other domains), and implementing an on-demand environment to access GMES information and services. More information on the project objectives, deliverables, structure and schedule is available on the SANY web site (http://sany-ip.eu) SANY IP started in September 2006. During the first six months of the project, SANY communication efforts were limited to opening up the dialog with ORCHESTRA IP, OSIRIS IP and with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). In addition, the general project ideas were presented at ENVIROINFO 2006 and IST 2006 conferences. Since the end of March 2007, SANY IP has entered into a pro-active approach to increase its visibility and to contribute to the standardization effort worldwide, with a number of significant actions:
This one-day workshop has been co-organised by SANY and EDSnet Knowledge Network Programme, with the intention of discussing the state-of-the-art, and trends in maritime environmental monitoring networks and related applications. LINK: Workshop summary and presentations 20-22 March 2007 (Münster/De) - SANY organised a training on Sensor Web EnablementDuring the technical assesment, SANY consortium detected a need to improve the understanding of the OGC SWE by the Partners, and decided to organise a training on OGC SWE for members of SANY consortium and other interested parties on a cost-sharing basis. DA-07-04 GEO task is a part of the 10-year Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) implementation plan. DA-07-04 concentrates on interoperability of heterogeneous terrestrial in-situ sensor networks. The primary output will be the design of a distributed geospatial infrastructure for Sensor Web services and test implementations of Sensor Web enablement. This will be supported by a development of standards for the use of Sensor Webs. Live demonstration of ORCHESTRA - ESA SSE service interoperability is a good news for the future SANY architecture. More information on this workshop will soon be available on cordis.eu SANY consortium shall be present on following events during April and May 2007:
The Workshop concerns systems engineering issues related to implementation of the GEOSS information Infrastructure. The Workshop is sponsored by the IEEE Committee on Earth Observations. LINK: More information 22-25 Mai 2007 (Prague/Cz): ISESS 2007 ISESS 2007 is part of a series organized by IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Working Group 5.11 "Computers and Environment". The purpose of the symposium is to present and discuss the progress and trends in Enviromatics, which is operationally defined as the application of information technology to environmental science, engineering, and management. LINK: More information 31 Mai (Brussels/Be): Joint EC/EARSC workshop on “Integrating in-situ monitoring and remote sensing in the framework of GMES and GEOSS” This workshop brings together experts in the fields of remote-sensing, in-situ monitoring and sensor networks in order to increase mutual knowledge of their communities. Workshop participants shall to explore the mechanisms of synergy between in-situ and remote sensing, assess the potential for new applications, and identify technical and non-technical obstacles to integration of in-situ and remote sensing in the framework of GMES and GEOSS. SANY newsletter is the main external communication medium of the SANY project. Its aim is to inform the decision makers, fellow researches, producers and users of environmental information systems and all other people interested in the subject of environmental monitoring on the progress of the project and on events organised by the SANY consortium. SANY consortium intends to publish four to six newsletters each year, with a minimum of one month between two newsletter issues. All newsletters will be archived on the SANY web-page: |
