Event summary:

In November 2009, the International Cartographic Association will hold its conference in Santiago, Chile.

This is an opportunity to keep abreast with the latest scientific and technical developments in our profession. As well, it provides the possibility to meet Chilean colleagues. The conference in Santiago provides the opportunity, for the first time, for the activities of the ICA to be showcased in South America.

Event summary:

At this event, decision makers, researchers and technical managers interested in environmental management will be given a chance to discover the findings of the SANY project in a combination of presentations, live demonstrations, and in-depth discussions with SANY team members. The programme includes:

• Sensor Service Architecture (SensorSA) and its relationship to GMES, INSPIRE, ORCHESTRA, and OGC Sensor Web Enablement;
  
• prototype implementation of the SensorSA services;
  
• a framework for integration of fusion- and modelling- engines into SensorSA networks;
  
• a security framework for access control & policy enforcement;
  
• a web based platform for building decision support applications based on ESA SSE;

Those participants interested in INSPIRE/CAFE and Air Quality management will be given a chance to see the prototype of the Austrian "Air Quality" pilot in action, and discuss the advantages and limitations of the SensorSA/OGC SWE based solutions within the context of INSPIRE/CAFE. The results of "Marine risks" and "Geo Hazards" pilots will also be presented and partially demonstrated at this event.

Event summary:

Shellfisheries operate in coastal and estuarine waters subject to fluctuating water quality, and operators must manage their harvesting to optimise supplies of compliant shellfish to customers.

Developments in low-cost sensing technology, coupled with advanced IT and communications, have allowed novel decision support techniques to be deployed. This workshop will present these advances and their practical application to shellfishery management, and explore how these can assist operations within a challenging regulatory environment.
